Carrigallen, in the south of County Leitrim, is said to be located where the three provinces of Ireland – Ulster, Leinster and Connaught – meet between the northern and southern shores of Town Lake. The town is set amongst magnificent scenery and is an excellent angling centre.
In the centre of the town is the Corn Mill Theatre which has an extensive and varied programme of entertainment that includes drama, variety shows, music and poetry events. There is a long tradition of drama in Carrigallen. The present group, founded in 1963, have won the All-Ireland Open Drama Finals on three occasions.
Legends tell that St. Patrick passed through this region. While there he baptised followers at St. Patrick’s holy well in Aughawillian and before leaving the region he blessed the ancient graveyard of Errew. The 16th century graveyard is situated about 2 miles east of Carrigallen overlooking the beautiful Gulladoo Lake.
