Sunday Steam at the Cavan and Leitrim Railway(Heritage week)

August 18 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Come along and travel behind our 1908 built steam locomotive “Nancy” along a section of the former Cavan and Leitrim Railway narrow gauge network. Our volunteers work tirelessly to keep the narrow gauge railway running and to preseve Irish railway heritage. Our trains will have a fully guided tour of our running line and museum area. A full tour should last over an hour and is fun for all the family.

The Cavan and Leitrim Railway ran from Dromod in the south of Leitrim, through Ballinamore to Belturbet in County Cavan. There was also a short branch line to Arigna in Roscommon.

At Dromod the narrow gauge met the broad gauge line from Dublin to Sligo, where much freight traffic and livestock was transshipped.

A group of volunteers came across the abandoned site in the early 1990’s and rebuilt the railway, sleeper by sleeper, rail by rail. They restored locos and carriages for use by the local community, transforming it to the award winning heritage amenity it is now.

Adults: €9 Child/OAP: €6 Family: €20
