Jargon: Midnight Moonlight

February 22 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Jargon reunites after 40 years to release their first album since the 1980s. Known for their unique blend of ragtime, blues, folk, bluegrass, and pop influences, Jargon originally formed in 1973 with Charlie McGettigan and Eamonn Daly at its core.

By the early 80s, the lineup expanded to include Brendan Emmett, Gerry Grennan, and Liam Gilmartin. The group gained widespread attention by winning the prestigious Letterkenny Folk Festival, following in the footsteps of Clannad, and securing a recording contract with Polygram Records. This success led to the release of three hit singles: “Bailieboro and Me,” “The Singer,” and “Hey Mr. Dreamer.”

After drifting apart in the mid-1980s to pursue individual music projects, Jargon reunited in 2023, with new member, Brian Mulligan, to perform both their classic hits and exciting new material. Jargon’s return is a celebration of their legacy, blending timeless originals with fresh compositions to capture the spirit of their eclectic musical journey.

Charlie McGettigan
A prolific songwriter and key figure in Jargon’s early days, Charlie joined forces with Paul Harrington and Brendan Graham to win the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest for Ireland with Graham’s “Rock’n’Roll Kids”. Charlie’s songs, including “Feet of a Dancer” and “A Bed for the Night,” have been recorded by various artists over the years. He has also released several solo albums, such as In Your Old Room and Family Matters, with some produced by the legendary Bill Vorndick in Nashville.

Gerry Grennan
Gerry is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for his work with guitar, dobro, and mandolin. His original songs like “How Long,” “I Still Love You,” and “This City’s Not My Home” feature in the band’s live set. With over 40 years of experience, Gerry has recorded and toured with some of the biggest names in music, including Christy Moore, Frances Black, and Chris Rea.

Liam Gilmartin
Liam joined the band in the ’80s and became known for his role in the Hennigan’s Blooze Band, where he wrote two top-ten hits. His compositions, such as “The Strength to Carry On” and “I Miss You,” earned interest from Warner/Chappell. He later performed with Stockton’s Wing and toured internationally with Ray Lynam. Liam has shared the stage with artists like John Prine and Albert Lee.

Brian Mulligan
Joining Jargon in 2023, Brian replaced Brendan Emmett on double bass. An experienced musician, Brian has played in numerous jazz ensembles and currently performs with The Old Market Street Swing Band. His double bass skills bring a new layer to Jargon’s sound, revitalizing their music for this reunion.
