From 14th to 20th July, the international Wild Rose festival will take place in Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim. With a focus on diversity, inclusivity and a casting aside of the themes of the ‘beauty pageants’ of old, the Wild Rose Festival now celebrates the diversity of women who have connections to the region.
Drawing some inspiration from ‘The Wild Rose of Lough Gill’ a late 19th century Irish novel, by P.G. Smith, the 12 Roses represent locations our heroine Kathleen, travelled to, throughout her tumultuous life.
But these days the festival is about having fun and so for the week between 14th – 20th July this year, the town will host a week of music, live performances, heritage trails, children’s workshops, and more, culminating in the Crowning Ceremony at the Bee Park Centre on Thursday 20th. But it doesn’t end there … with the annual agricultural show taking place on Saturday 22nd , followed by a free street event at 6pm; Manorhamilton’s Country Jamboree with Johnny Brady & band and more.
