Both fixtures of the Sligo music community, Hugh and Stephen recently joined forces for a special Lillies Live Lounge performance, featured in the “Top Ten Things To Do In Sligo” in The Independent, and reviewed in the Sligo Champion, which quickly sold out. Both set to release music in late 2024 and early 2025, audiences can expect evocative and heartfelt songs from these established performers. Their multi-instrumental performances combine Irish traditional heritage with contemporary folk influences, taking listeners on immersive journeys through songs that feel both timeless and fresh. Their double headline shows offer a unique blend of storytelling, instrumentation, and deep-rooted musicality. The duo is embarking on a 2025 tour across Ireland, promising audiences a memorable evening of music that bridges traditional and contemporary folk traditions.
Hugh Joseph Feely
Hailing from the North West of Ireland, Hugh Joseph Feely has been a significant presence in the Irish music scene. A former integral member of the acclaimed Rackhouse Pilfer, Hugh has performed at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Body & Soul, and La Roche Bluegrass Festival. In 2017, his song Lost In A Feeling was awarded Hot Press Magazine’s “Song Of The Day”, further cementing his reputation as a gifted songwriter. Hugh’s solo work draws inspiration from both traditional and contemporary folk icons like Dick Gaughan, Nick Drake, Ryan Adams, and Townes Van Zandt. Known for his experimental approach to acoustic guitar using open tunings, he also incorporates the Irish Bouzouki and harmonica into his performances, creating a rich, textured soundscape.
Stephen O’Dowd
Born and raised on the West Coast of Ireland in County Sligo, Stephen O’Dowd is of the fourth generation of a renowned musical family with deep roots in Irish traditional music. Drawing inspiration from folk legends like Thom Moore, Planxty, and John Martyn, Stephen weaves mythical stories, vivid landscapes, and evocative characters into his music. In August 2024, Stephen released his debut folk single The Galleass Girona and is gearing up for the release of his next track, Johnny Whelan, in the coming weeks. Having performed solo at venues across Ireland and the UK—from London to Kerry, Derry, and even islands off Ireland’s rugged west coast, Stephen is gaining recognition as an artist in the Irish folk music scene. He is set to perform at the Your Roots Are Showing Folk showcase festival in January 2025.
