
20th May: The Living Soil Workshop for National Drawing Day with Youth Artist in Residence Jackie Maguire
During this workshop, youth Artist-in-Residence Jackie Maguire will collaborate with Soil Scientist Dr Agnieszka Piwowarczyk and Forest School Educator Trisha MacLaughlin to look at soil and discover the amazing life within. As part of The Dock’s National Drawing Day celebrations, it is hosting this workshop for young children with Down Syndrome aged 0-6 years.
24th May: May Paula Rego, Secrets & Stories Film Screening.
As part of the exhibition ‘Na Cailleacha with reference to Paula Rego’, The Dock will be screening ‘Paula Rego, Secrets & Stories’. This documentary offers a unique insight into the life and work of celebrated painter Paula Rego directed by her son, filmmaker Nick Willing. Notoriously private and guarded, Rego opens up to the public for the first time, surprising her son with secrets and stories of her unique life, battling fascism, a misogynistic art world, and manic depression.
27th May: Talking Soil Art Workshop with Youth Artist in Residence Jackie Maguire
During this workshop youth artist-in-residence, Jackie Maguire will collaborate with Soil Scientist Dr Agnieszka Piwowarczyk and Forest School Educator Trisha MacLaughlin to explore the symbiotic relationship that exists between plants and mycorrhizal fungi in this workshop for young children aged 0-3 years. This unique relationship will be considered and explored through the arts.How do plants and fungi communicate and talk to each other? What messages do they send? What sounds do they make? What might these connections look like?
