The Historical Trail section runs in a great loop, leaving the Miners Way at Keadue and running to the picturesque Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle, Carrowkeel, Castlebaldwin, Highwood and returning to the Miners Way at Ballyfarnon. A third loop connects the Miners Way to Slí Liatroma and goes around Lough Allen by Drumkeeran, Dowra, Drumshanbo and back to Arigna.
The Historical Trail is best completed over a period of six to seven days. One can however, pick and choose individual sections of the walk and experience just some of the history and tranquility that is intrinsic to the unpolluted wilderness of the area. There are 14 stages to the walk and 12 one day loop walks.
