The tradition of Drama in Carrigallen goes back to the second last century. The present group was founded in 1963 as ‘The Community Players’ and there has been no break in activity since that time. The company has competed on the festival circuit since 1970 and has reached the All Ireland Finals in Athlone on nine occasions. In 1989 the company opened their own Theatre, i.e. The Corn Mill Theatre and Arts Centre. In that year the name of the company was changed to the Corn Mill Theatre Company. In 1998 the company won the Esso All-Ireland Drama Finals in Athlone with Billy Roche’s play ‘Belfry’, directed by Killian McGuinness.
